Whirlpool swings to a Q3 loss and cuts its 2026 outlook; shares fall about 8.6% after hours

Whirlpool posted an ongoing loss of $0.21 a share on revenue down 8.8% to $3.68 billion and now expects a full-year ongoing loss of about $1.30 a share.

Appliance maker Whirlpool reported a weaker-than-expected third quarter after Monday’s close and sharply lowered its full-year targets.

ItemResult
Revenue$3.68B (-8.8% y/y)
Ongoing (adjusted) EPSloss of $0.21
2026 ongoing EPS outlookloss of about $1.30
2026 revenue outlookabout $14.5B

Analysts had expected a profit of about $1.04 a share for the quarter, and a full-year profit rather than a loss. The shares, which had already fallen 5.9% in Monday’s regular session, dropped about 8.5–8.8% in after-hours trading.

Why it matters: Whirlpool is a bellwether for big-ticket household spending, which is sensitive to housing turnover and borrowing costs. With 10-year Treasury yields near 5% and the Fed in a hiking cycle, its guidance cut is a reminder that rate-sensitive consumer sectors are not sharing in the AI-driven rally.

WMR data view: consumer discretionary (XLY) is up 3.4% over the past month in our sector data, but that gain is concentrated in large names like Tesla and Amazon rather than housing-linked stocks; see /en/markets/pulse/ for the yield backdrop.

Next: today’s regular-session reaction, and September new home sales and consumer confidence data for a read on housing demand.
