Estimates are from TipRanks, 24/7 Wall St. and AlphaStreet; none named the underlying data provider. Payment network revenue rose 11%. The company bought back $3.0 billion of stock and paid $763 million in dividends in the quarter. The release itself contained no numeric outlook; management was due to discuss the outlook on its 9:00 AM ET call.
Why it matters: Mastercard’s volumes are a near real-time read on U.S. and global consumer spending. Cross-border growth of 11% points to travel spending holding up, and the 19% jump in services (fraud tools, data and AI products) keeps reducing the company’s dependence on card swipes alone.
Market reaction: a modest premarket gain after a run near all-time highs into the report, on a morning when Nasdaq futures were weighed down by mixed Big Tech results.
Next: growth commentary on the 9:00 AM ET call. Amazon and Intel report after today’s close.
