Dallas Fed's Logan: Fed needs at least two more rate hikes
Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan said Friday the Fed needs at least two more quarter-point rate increases, and that skipping a hike this week does not change where policy needs to end up.
Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan said on Friday that the Federal Reserve will need to raise rates at least two more times, by a quarter point each, to bring inflation back to the 2% target.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Fed funds target (after this week’s meeting) | 3.75%–4.00%, unchanged |
| Logan’s call | At least two more 25 bp hikes |
| Her view on this week’s pause | Does not change the policy destination |
| Next FOMC meeting | Dec. 8–9 |
Why it matters — It is the second Fed official on Friday, after St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem, to say more tightening is needed just two days after the Fed held rates. Logan is a voting member of the FOMC in 2026, so her view counts directly at the December meeting.
Market reaction — The comments landed during a tech-led selloff that pushed the Nasdaq down about 3% toward its worst day since June, with Nvidia off about 5% and the VIX up roughly 20% to around 20.
What to watch next — Other Fed speakers, the October jobs report and CPI before the Dec. 8–9 meeting, and how much of a December hike is priced into 2-year Treasury yields.
